Hi! My name is Emily. I have been married to my faithful, hard-working husband, Ralph for the past 30 years. I have 3 great sons, James, Jason and Matthew, a super daughter-in-law, Christy and a beautiful granddaughter, Portia. Our Michael is no longer with us but he lives in our hearts. My family is my life and I love them all “oodles”.
For as long as I can remember, I have always loved to cook. I am not a professional chef. I’m just your everyday mother, grandmother, great grandmother who has spent a lot of time in the kitchen over the past 55 plus years. Everything I know about cooking, I have learned first hand by getting in the kitchen and cooking. If you are looking for delicious family friendly recipes to please your family’s appetites, then you have come to the right place. You won’t find fancy, gourmet, or exotic recipes, you”ll have to visit somewhere else for those. But you will find many wonderful, flavorful, down-home recipes your family is sure to enjoy.
In addition to my love of cooking, I also enjoy caring for my home; keeping it clean and orderly and decorating it with items I have hand-crafted. I enjoy counted cross stitch and have made several nice pieces that I have framed and displayed on my walls. I especially like decorating for the fall season and of course my all-time favorite holiday “Christmas”.
I enjoy the simple things in life: spending time with my children and my granddaughter, keeping up to date on all the happenings going on in their lives, surfing the web and making new friends in “cyberspace”, reading a good book while enjoying a cup of my favorite beverage “coffee”, watching a good movie with my hubby on the weekend, creating new recipes to share with friends on my blog, or cooking something special for the ones I love.
It seems that in our fast-paced world of today, home cooking is becoming a thing of the past. I think this is sad because there is so much to be gained by spending time together in the kitchen and around the dinner table. I know things are different today than they were when I was a child growing up. Many wives and moms have to work to help pay their day-to-day expenses and fast food has taken the place of home-cooked meals. But I still believe that with a little planning we can enjoy more at home dinners with our families. I can hear some of you thinking, “that’s easy for you to say, you don’t have to work a full time job”. Well, actually I do! I work 10 hours a day, Monday through Friday as a self-employed childcare provider. And believe me, that’s work.
I would like to encourage all you young women and men, (my son Jason is an awesome cook), to get in the kitchen and give it a try. You may be surprised at how much you enjoy puttering around in the kitchen. Pick out a simple, easy recipe to start with and go for it! So what if it doesn’t turn out perfect? Chances are whatever you make will still taste great and that’s really all that matters.
Don’t be afraid to experiment. If you don’t have all the ingredients you need for a recipe, look around and see what you have and make a substitution. Some of my best dishes have been the result of adding and/or substituting ingredients in recipes. Cooking is a wonderful area in which you can be creative.
So how about it? Are you up to the challenge? If so, head out to the kitchen, dust off those pots and pans, gather your ingredients and let’s get started on your journey to Marvelous cooking!
I want your cooking experience to be fun and rewarding, so please feel free to share your comments with me. I read every comment and I look forward to hearing from you and helping you enjoy Marvelous dishes from my home to yours.
